Wade woke with a smile on his face and the woman of his dreams snuggled up against his side. The morning sun was peeking through his curtains, and there was a cool breeze blowing through his bedroom window.

It took him a second to remember why he’d gone to bed with his window open. When he did, his smile grew even wider.

A few minutes after their mind-blowing sex on the couch, his smoke detectors had started going off, and his kitchen had filled with smoke. Apparently, garlic bread had a tendency to burn when it was left in the oven twenty minutes past the suggested baking time.

Oops.

He’d never seen Allie laugh as hard as she had in that moment. While he was battling the smoke and the alarm’s piercing scream, Wade had decided on his new life goal.

To make her laugh like that every chance he got.

She shifted against him, her leg sliding over the top of his. Wade’s heart did a funny sort of flip inside his chest, but he didn’t question it or the overwhelming emotions that had finally filled his empty heart.

So this is what Noah was talking about.

Once his partner found out he was head over ass in love, Wade knew he’d have to listen to the I-told-you-so’s. But he’d listen to Noah spout that shit all day long if it meant waking up to Allie’s gorgeous face every morning.

A soft sigh reached his ears, and he looked down at her sleeping face. He lost his breath damn near every time he saw her, but fuck if she wasn’t even more beautiful lying beside him in his bed.

After two rounds of the best sex he’d ever had—the one on his couch before he almost burned the place down, and the other in here, after they’d showered the smell of smoke from their hair—they’d heated up the spaghetti and cleaned up the mess before falling asleep in each other’s arms.

His phone dinged from its place on his nightstand, alerting him of a new text. Reaching over, Wade grabbed it and opened the message from Noah.

You alive, or do I need to send the calvary?
